Ang Lee is one of the most outstanding directors in20th century. His films are thesamples of culture blending between Chinese culture and western cultures and this is theunique of his film."The Family Trilogy"(Pushing Hands, Wedding Banquet, Eat DrinkMan Woman) are the earliest works of Ang Lee. In the films, Ang Lee used narrativemodel of Hollywood as its narrative frame, blended Chinese stories and traditional cultureelements into the films. He outlined a contradictory life scene of culture conflict andculture blending between Chinese culture and western cultures by the detailed shots andthis make his film become recognizable and appreciative. This paper starts from thenarrative model of Ang Lee’s films and reveals the dynamic development process bycombing the narrative frame and narrative elements of "The Family Trilogy"(PushingHands, Wedding Banquet, Eat Drink Man Woman) and concluding the differencesbetween Chinese culture and western cultures.The first chapter is mainly talking about the development process ofAng Lee’s films.In this chapter, it expounds the inevitability of Ang Lee’s success by combing the familybackground, oversea education and living conditions. The second chapter aims atdescribing the unique narrative effects of the narrative strategies in "The FamilyTrilogy"(Pushing Hands, Wedding Banquet, Eat Drink Man Woman). It bases on theconcrete explanation of the important narrative elements appears in "The FamilyTrilogy"(Pushing Hands, Wedding Banquet, Eat Drink Man Woman), concludes andsummarizes the narrative frame of the films. The third chapter starts with the orientalculture context and global context, deeply discusses the culture implication in "TheFamily Trilogy"(Pushing Hands, Wedding Banquet, Eat Drink Man Woman). Inconclusive part, the conclusion points out the significance of the inter-cultural narrationof Ang Lee’s films and longs for eliminating the cultural barriers between Chinese cultureand western cultures with the development of globalization.
