This translation report takes the scholarly article “Pushing-hands and periperformativity” as the source text. This article is the Part 3-Chapter 11 of The Pushing-Hands of Translation and Its Theory,in Memoriam Martha Cheung(1953-2013),a collection of translation studies focusing on pushing-hands theory.Douglas Robinson is the writer of the source text as well as the editor of this collection. In terms of the concept of “periperformativity” put forth by Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick,Douglas Robinson applies Martha's pushing-hands approach into the fields of performance,(theater)translation and academic discourse.Through translating “Pushing-hands and periperformativity”,an academic writing with philosophical thinking on translation, this translation report purports that the three kernel concepts in Zhu Chunshen's pushing-hands hypothesis of translation, namely she ji,yin jin luo kong and bu diu bu ding, function well in dealing with major challenges such as the translation of anaphoric pronouns, proper names and the streamlining of inner and inter syntactic logic. This report consists of four parts: Part one is the background of the source text, including the publish information and contents of the source book, introduction of the source writer and the significance of this project.Part two is a literature review of the pushing-hands translation theory based on the standpoint in Towards a yin-yang poetics of translation(2016)by Zhu Chunshen.Part three depicts the translating process, from preparation, difficulties and solutions,to the phase of revision. The last part is the conclusion,in which the author lists three lessons she's gained from this translation project and her further thinking of the feasibility and applicability of the pushing-hands translation theory.
