Northrop Frye is one of the most distinguished Canadian ideologist and literarytheorists in the20th century, known for his archetypal criticism and literary critic.The Anatomy of Criticism, unparalleled among the critical theories, is Frye’sauthorative work representing the beginning of the archetypal criticism. Much research on itin the academic world is on the rise, presenting interdisciplinary situation from various angles,and many different domains since the advent of The Anatomy of Criticism. The encyclopedicwork not only expands many literary concepts but also makes a profound influence on thedevelopment of literary theories.This dissertation will deal with another point of Frye’s views on the mimesis on thebasis of its construction and formation, namely synthetic literature, explaining and showingthem from three angles of mimesis and symbol﹑mimesis and nature、mimesis and archetype.Meanwhile, we will compare or explain the views on the mimesis closely related andinfluenced with its representative views of western literarytheories to analyze the connectionsand a distinction of Frye’s.And at last, the article is a tentative investigation of Frye’s literary writing andprofound consideration from multidimensional perspective of mimesis, which contains certainpractical and theoretical value in digging its connotation and exploring the factors that “viewson the mimesis” influences the contemporary phenomenon of literature invent.
