The Big Five Personality trait, which is one of new personality trait theory of personality trait researchers, includes five factors mentioned as neuroticism, extra version, openness, conscientiousness, and agreeableness. They are widely applied in the pedagogy, psychology and management domains to explore the psychological mechanism and personality characterization in the working and learning. Based on the relative research achievements of the big five personality trait, this paper reveals the relationship between the big five personality and college English autonomous learning. In the research, a questionnaire of college English autonomous learning and the CBF-PI brief version are carried out which include316participants. The data from the investigations verify that the big five personality trait predicts and affects the college English autonomous learning. The main survey contents are:(1) Correlation between the big five personality trait and teaching aims and requirements comprehension of autonomous learning.(2) Correlation between the big five personality trait and learning objectives formulation of autonomous learning.(3) Correlation between the big five personality trait and learning strategies evaluation of autonomous learning.(4) Correlation between the big five personality trait and using of learning strategy monitor of autonomous learning.(5) Correlation between the big five personality trait and learning process monitor of autonomous learning. The research results reveal:(1) Openness and conscientiousness trait are positive significant correlations with teaching aims and requirements comprehension of autonomous learning; There exists negative significant correlation between agreeableness trait and teaching aims and requirements comprehension of autonomous learning; there is no correlation between neuroticism and extraversion trait and teaching aims and requirements comprehension of autonomous learning.(2) Positive significant correlations exist between openness and conscientiousness trait and learning objectives formulation of autonomous learning and no significant correlation between agreeableness, openness to experience and conscientiousness trait and learning objectives formulation of autonomous learning.(3) There are positive significant correlations between openness and conscientiousness trait and learning strategies evaluation of autonomous learning. Agreeableness trait is a negative significant factor with learning strategies evaluation of autonomous learning. Neuroticism and extraversion trait are no correlation with learning strategies evaluation of autonomous learning.(4) There are positive significant correlations between openness and conscientiousness trait and using of learning strategy monitor of autonomous learning and no significant correlation between agreeableness, openness and conscientiousness trait and using of learning strategy monitor of autonomous learning.(5) Openness and conscientiousness trait have positive significant correlations with learning process monitor of autonomous learning; Agreeableness trait has negative significant correlation with learning process monitor of autonomous learning; neuroticism and extraversion trait are no correlation with learning process monitor of autonomous learning. Lastly, this paper confirms the correlation between the big five personality and college English autonomous learning.Moreover, this paper based on research results puts forward some efficient strategies to enhance the learners’ autonomy, including carrying out the strategies training on autonomous learning and developing the relationship between teaching and learning further as well.
