In Vocational College, Business English Writing is an important course, forstudents of economy major and foreign language major it can improve their overallEnglish proficiency, and thus causes teachers’ and students’ wide concern. But thereare still some problems in Business English Writing in China, it mainly manifested intwo aspects: Firstly, the English foundation of Vocational College students is verypoor, so they have little confidence in English writing, and most of them don notknow how to study English, therefore they have no interest in Business EnglishWriting. Secondly, English teachers in Vocational College use traditional teachingmethods to teach Business English Writing, in which teachers and students have littleinteraction and the class atmosphere is not active, so it can not improve the students’enthusiasm.The “project” includes knowledge of many course, students can use them tosolve problems. In Project-based Learning teachers guide students to study relativelyindependent project by themselves. Students will do all aspects of project such asinformation collecting, program designing, project implementing and final evaluation.Through knowing the process of project students can grasp every aspect of the wholeprocess and the basic requirements. This is a typical student-centered teachingmethod.The author uses two classes of international trade and commerce (ITC) major todo the research, the English level of the two classes is almost equal. Class one is theexperimental class, in which the teacher uses Project-based Learning to teach studentsBusiness English Writing. Class two is the controlled class, and teacher usestraditional teaching method to teach Business English Writing. Before the experimentstudents of the two classes have Business English Writing proficiency test, and theywill be carried out the questionnaire about Business English Writing strategies. Afterthe experiment students of two classes have Business English Writing proficiency test, and the experimental class have questionnaire and interview about the Project-basedLearning. Through the experiment the researcher raises two hypothesises:1. Project-based Learning can improve the level of Vocational College studentsBusiness English Writing.2. Project-based Learning can improve Vocational College students’ interest ofBusiness English Writing.We can make some conclusions through the research. After experiment test, thescore of experimental class is higher than controlled class. And the questionnaire andinterview show us that students in experimental class hold a positive attitude towardsProject-based Learning, and their interest of Business English Writing can beimproved.Thus, it is necessary and feasible to apply Project-based Learning to BusinessEnglish Writing in Vocational College.
