The Research On Zhenyun Liu’s Narrative Art

As a significant member in contemporary literature field, Zhenyun Liu always adheres to literature creation for30years. His novels used to win Mao Dun Literature Prize, In five years the best award, The people’s Literature Award and so on. In my opinion, his successful narrative art contributes greatly to such a brilliant achievement. At present, researches on Zhenyun Liu’s works in academic circles is considerable, while the research on the narrative art is still vacant, meaning the past research on his novels’narrative mostly utilizes the single novel text as an entry point. It causes the narrow vision and frail research contents, as well as a lack of macroscopic control.. The author thinks, the esthetic style of Zhenyun Liu’s novels arises from unique charm of his works. This paper will use parallel structure, combining with the analysis method of narratology, to explore Zhenyun Liu’s novels’narrative feature and artistic value. The full paper is divided into three parts to discuss:Chapter1summarizes the three elements on narrative with Liu Zhenyun’s novels’. Firstly, it teases his novels’the narrative concept, containing "lightness" and "heaviness","fact" and "fiction", and "known" and "unknown". Then it discusses Liu’s novels’narrative object, mainly about the people and stories in Liu’s hometown, Yanjin. The remaining reads the narrative theme of Zhenyun Liu’s novels, which means he always pay close attention to public life with frosty look during the period of social transformation. Also, through the depiction of unspeakable trivial details, Liu show us ordinary people’s survival condition at the level of "Survival anxiety","helpless struggle" and "distortion of human nature".Chapter2presents the narrative feature of Zhenyun Liu’s novels. This chapter, based on narrative structure, narrative strategy and narrative language, utilizes classical narratology theory to discuss the significance of narratology to Liu’s novels meticulously. Firstly it discusses the blend narrative of time and space. Zhenyun Liu breaks traditional novels narrative dilemma through multiple space-time construction, making his novels have various possibility of progress. Secondly, it unscrambles foreordination sense arranged by contingency. Necessity leads to foreordination while foreordination is in contingency. Liu’s novels describe numerous survival patterns from a contingency perspective, aiming to reveal the necessity of characters’ tragic fate in this novels. Lastly, this paper analysis the narrative language, where bluntness interweaves with complexity. It helps to explore the novel language’s simpleness and complexity on narrative effect, begin with language type, language sense and characters’dialogues.Chapter3utilizes J-Hillis-Miller’s "repetition theory" to analysis the phenomenon of repeated narrative in Zhenyun Liu’s novels."Repetition" is a significant narrative technique of Liu’s works. It interpenetrate with narrative feature in Chapter2. So the interpretation of the "repetition" phenomenon in his novels is the deep analysis on the narrative characteristics of Liu’s novels. The repetition of details can help to portraying characters, promote novel emotion and enhanced artistic effect. The repetition of event and scene can promote the development of the plot of the tale and deepen the theme. The repetition of the plot between different novels leads to the possibility of multiple comparison, as well as helping to conclude the novels’ implicit ideological connotation. Based on the subtle interpretation on the phenomenon of the repetition in Liu’s works, we can explore the function of various repetition in novels, as well as the derivational significance. Also, we can grasp the rich connotation of his novels.This paper regresses the novel text, aiming to get a subtle and systemic analysis and research, and detect the narrative charm and value of Zhenyun Liu’s novels.
