Christian Ifluence On Andersen’s Fairy Tale

Although the propagation of Andersen’s fairy tales has a history of one hundred years in China, the author considers that his fairy tales are just "familiar strangers" for Chinese readers. Limiting in time and policy background, the study of Andersen’s fairy tale is biased for a long period of time in China and deliberately ignores many worthy aspects. With the development of reform and opening up, the ignoring study of the relationship between Andersen fairy tales and theology has been gradually launched. Because of the close relationship of Andersen fairy tales and Christian, both children and adults are attracted by Andersen’s fairy tales. In this paper, based on the intensive reading texts, the author will analyze the influence of Christianity on the Andersen’s fairy tale.This paper is divided into four parts:(1) The reason for the produce Christian ideas in Andersen’s fairy tales. This chapter mainly analyzes from two aspects. One is from the social environment to explain how the Christianity was spread and influence in Denmark. The other one is from three different stages of Andersen’s life, childhood, adolescence and youth, to explain how did he get close to God step by step, and how to make God to be his recourse.(2) Christianity in Andersen’s Fairy Tales. This part takes the Christian doctrines, hope, and love as a framework and analyzes Andersen’s fairy tales how to perform the doctrine. At the beginning, this section discusses Andersen’s faith in God. Then it talks about how his fairy tale performing the faith. The section of hope mainly mentions the death consciousness in Andersen’s fairy tales. Based on the death consciousness, the author analyzes the protagonists of fairy tale’s hopes before dying in God and God gives them hopes and new life. The section of love from family, friendship, love, the holy love to explain the kindness and charity in fairy tale.(3) The biblical elements in Andersen’s Fairy Tales. This part describes in two aspects, biblical imagery and biblical doctrine. Analyze these expression and connotation in Andersen’s Fairy Tales.(4) Conclusion. In this part, the author stats that the influence of Christianity on the Andersen’s fairy tale is not for the fairy tale as Christian analytical duplicates or notes. But it is precisely because of the existence of the Christian factors in fairy tales. That makes Andersen’s fairy tales are different from other fairy tales and have a special heavy sense and compassionate feelings, and makes the fairy tales have such a long life and so extensive influence.
