The art of painting has emphasized innovation and changes all the time. This is an ever-lasting theme. Preliminary Exploration of the Important Issues in China’s Aesthetics History mentions that:"All the beauty of art, including the beauty of the personality, tends to be the beauty of jade:internal radiance with reserved luster; but this radiance is both gorgeous and plain." Throughout the words of5000years before and after, I can only interpret concisely and explicitly the original intention of painting by the word "beauty". The watercolors form its own artistic characteristics because of its differences with other paintings in its tools and techniques. Its uniqueness expresses a grace, a temperament and a spirit of its paintings, showing the unique charm of the water and the colors. This is a natural reveal of an artist’s real sentiments. The beauty of painting originates from the beauty of mind. The painter expresses in a lyrical and realistic way throughout the water and the colors. The painting has a strong lyric and unique taste. The thesis intends to express the beauty of the watercolor paintings. Its first chapter elaborates the beauty of the watercolor painting mainly from the watercolor painting material, techniques and textures. The second chapter furthers its discussion about beauty of the watercolor painting through comparison and connection. Combined with the "Liufa"(Six Rules) theory of Sheikh, it sets off from the five charms of water, color, brush, shape and elegance according to the water paintings’self characteristics.
