This is a report on the translation of the tenth chapter of The GreatDeformation: the Corruption of Capitalism in America by David A. Stockman, aformer U.S. politician serving as a Republican U.S. Representative from the stateof Michigan. After a brief description of the project Part One (its background, objectives and significance) and of the source text in Part Two (its author, maincontent, structure and linguistic features), the report presents a more detailedanalysis of the translation process in Part Three. In this section, priority is given toother-revision based on the consideration of its importance. Drawing on theoperations of three revisers, and a careful comparison between their revisions andthe author’s draft translation, this report highlights some generalizations aboutrevision process. On the one hand, other-revision does help improve the quality oftranslation in a number of ways. On the other hand, actually, its effects depend on anumber of factors and can be negative due to factors like the dilution ofresponsibility and competence of revisers. Part Four winds up the whole reportwith lessons and implication in translation, especially revision, giving somesuggestions to those who take revision seriously in translation.
