This report is based on the translation of a New York Times bestseller, The Great Deformation-the Corruption of the Capitalism in America by David Alan Stockman. The book not only gives readers a searing look at Washington’s craven response to the myriad of financial crises and fiscal cliffs, but also opens a window reflecting the corruption of the capitalism in America. Moreover, valuable lessons are drawed to cope with global financial risks. Therefore, translating this book is of great value. Guided by Peter Newmark’s relevant theories, this report focuses on the translation strategies dealing with the difficulties encountered lexically and syntactically. The whole report contains five parts: the first part is task description, which mainly describes the content of the book and the chosen chapter, the introduction to the author, the purpose of the translation project and its significance; the second part is process description including preparation for translation, after-translation management and analysis of the original text; the third part is theoretic framework covering Peter Newmark’s text typology, semantic translation and communicative translation, and the guidance to the translation project; the fourth part: translation methods and case study including the main translation methods utilized lexically and syntactically; the fifth part is conclusion in which the experience gained and problems remained in translation are discussed. Following the main body of the report, there are references and appendices of the original and the target text.
