This is a report on the translation of Ecotourism:Impacts, Potentials andPossibilities by Stephen Wearing and John Neil, from which the translator choseChapter5The Role of Interpretation in Achieving a Sustainable Future as the sourcetext. The source text mainly explores the definition, techniques and benefits ofinterpretation and problems limiting interpretation. This report is divided into fourchapters: Chapter One gives a brief introduction to the translation project, includingproject background, objectives, significance and structure. Chapter Two describes thebackground of source text, including the author, original edition and source textanalysis. Chapter Three mainly discusses translation difficulties and methods. Thedifficulties lie in the terminology, proper nouns, abstract nouns and long sentences.Guided by Vermeer’s Skopos Theory, the translator elaborated (开始用的一般现在时)the ways of translating long sentences and abstract nouns in the report. ChapterFour concludes with the inspirations and lessons in translation.
