Priliminary Exploration For Religious Plots In The Piano Cycle "vingt Regards Sur L’ Enfant Jesus" Of Messiaen

Olivier Messiaen is a catholic. From the piano cycle of the Vingt Regards SurL’Enfant Jesus created by him, we can feel his piety. Also, this cycle is the mostimportant works that has expressed Messiaen’s religious philosophy. Vingt RegardsSur L’Enfant Jesus is extremely different from previous religious music in many ways,including the various aspects of music, such as means of production, contents andfinal auditory effect, all of which are full of modern sense. At the same time, thisworks also reflects the characteristics of Christian keeping pace with the times in the21st century.The paper expounds in four chapters. The first chapter takes the biography ofMessiaen as the main content and obtains the forming reasons of the religiouscomplex of Messiaen and the creation background of the piano cycle Vingt RegardsSur L’Enfant Jesus. The second chapter is the analysis of the music noumenon ofVingt Regards Sur L’Enfant Jesus. The first quarter studies on the basic theme of thewhole piano cycle. The second and third quarters focus on analyzing the seventh andthe eleventh musical movements. Based on the analysis of the music noumenon of thesecond movement, the third chapter of the paper as the key chapter explores thereligious belief of Messiaen in Vingt Regards Sur L’Enfant Jesus through connectingthe characteristics of the religion manifested in different fields.
