Paul Tillich was one of the most representative and unique thinkers in the area of religious philosophies in the Twentieth Century. His works possessed prominent position in the Western academia, for the characteristics of combination between Philosophy and Theology, wide ranges of topics, as well as the comprehensiveness of his thoughts. Since the1960s, Tillich’s thoughts have been introduced into Hong Kong and Taiwan, arousing hot discussion among religious scholars in these areas. However, previous researches regarding his thoughts in the Mainland China since the end of20th Century were not as many as these outside the Mainland probably due to the religious factors of his thoughts, which provided potential space for this study. This research considers the significance of Tillich’s thoughts on the contemporary social development in China. On the one hand, his Ontology and Exsistential Ethics provides human beings with spiritual consolation; on the other hand, his ideas assists in deciphering the symbol of tradition and the value of concepts. Therefore, by explaining the theory of ontology, this study analyzes the three elements of "Love","Power","Justice"and the relationship among these essential concepts. Meanwhile, this study also discusses the construction of Exsistential Ethics based on the comprehension of three elements, from which explores the role and value in personality association, group interaction and ultimate relation. Only through this way, can this thesis illustrate the realistic importance and significance of the Ontology and Exsistential Ethics of Tillich’s philosophy.
