As a bright shining star in the history of Chinese sculpture ceramics, Jingdezhensculpture ceramics has made great progress from its beginning to the present which haslasted more than one thousand years, occupying a very important position in the art ofChinese sculpture ceramics. The ceramic group sculptures of108heroes in TheOutlaws of the Marsh created by Jingdezhen Sculpture Porcelain Factory have beenacclaimed as “a wonder in the history of world ceramics” thanks to their vivid forms,bright glaze, minimalist decoration and superb craftsmanship. Ceramic artists of thefactory, for the first time, represented these literary heroes in a concrete, delicate andperfect manner in the form of porcelain sculpture.Through fieldwork and literature retrieval methods, this thesis, firstly, briefs thebackground, scale and process of their creation as well as the artists. Then it elaboratesthe features of form and techniques of the group sculptures and explores their artisticstyle by studying the artists’ thoughts and experiences. Finally, it summarizes theinheritance and innovation of the techniques of traditional Jingdezhen sculpture ceramicswhich will prove to be of great value and shed lights on its development in the future.
