Robert Frost, a four time Pulitzer winner, is one of the most distinguished poets in the20th century who has contributed a great amount of noteworthy poetic works to American literature. However, many readers of Frost have mistaken him for a long time by considering him only as a nature poet; yet, a close examination of his poetry would reveal the fact that Frost is far more than that. Many of Frost’s poetry center on one important theme-predicament in life. My thesis is an investigation of the theme on predicament in life in his poetry.Frost’s revelation of predicament in human life can be divided into three aspects: predicament from nature, predicament from human relationship and predicament from man himself. With concrete poems as examples, the thesis gives a systematic study of Frost’s poetry on the theme of predicament in life from the above three aspects. It is hoped that through this research, readers of Frost would understand Frost’s poetry more profoundly and have a soberer perception of life predicament which everyone has to face.
