In the12th century B.C,Phoenician vessels frequently appearedin the western Mediterranean, they went to the coast of Africa thatsearch for precious metals to the Iberian peninsula.About814B.C,the Phoenician beginning to founding of the city as a transit pointfor maritime trade.To the8th century B.C, Carthage city-statebegin expand to the interior of Africa and the westernMediterranean, and then,"Phoenicia-Carthage Kingdom" officiallyappeared on the stage of history. Carthage because of its uniquegeographical conditions, the rapid rise and moving away from thecontrol of the Mother State, became an independent city-state.Subsequently, the Carthaginian navy with a strong overseascolonization, and its sphere of influence encompasses North Africa,the Iberian Peninsula, as well as in most areas on the main island ofthe Mediterranean: Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily, to become theoverlord of the Western Mediterranean World.This paper mainly including four parts, the first part mainlydiscusses the rise of Carthage, and its basic situation;The secondpart mainly discusses the Carthage overseas colonial situation,including the Iberian peninsula, Sicily and colonial situation in otherparts of the Mediterranean;The third part analyze the reason ofCarthage overseas colonial respectively from two aspects of which the objective conditions and the domestic need. The fourth part onthe basis of summarizing the full text discusses the historical roleof Carthage overseas colonial, first of all, to promote thedevelopment of commercial trade of Carthage, second impetus tothe development of the domestic economy, once again led to thechange of political system and finally accelerate the pace ofinternational conflict and war.
