On The E-C Translation Of Legal Term Translation From The Perspective Of Relevance Theory

Private Equity Investment, as an innovative financial investment tool has made amajor improvement, witnessing the bloom of the international capital market. Thetranslation of legal terms in Private Equity Investment documents, which requiresequivalence both in linguistic function and in legal function, is one of the difficultiesencountered by legal translators.This paper, equipped with Relevance Theory, illustrates key concepts such asrelevance, clue, processing effort, maximum relevance and optimal relevance. Then itexplains legal terms, summarizes features, functions and categories of these legal terms inPrivate Equity Investment documents so as to make a study of their E-C translation. Theauthor makes a case study of E-C translating legal terms, and sums up three translationstrategies and several translation methods so as to reach optimal relevance and contextualeffect with fidelity and validity guaranteed, for the legal terms translation of the PrivateEquity Investment documents.The paper is divided into six chapters. Chapter One is an introduction to thebackground of this research, its significance and method. Chapter Two conducts aliterature review on Relevance Theory and legal term translation studies. Chapter Threesummarizes features, functions and categories of legal terms in Private Equity Investmentdocuments. Chapter Four is to provide theoretical support and define key concepts byintroducing Relevance. Chapter Five analyzes translation cases from Private EquityInvestment documents under the guidance of Relevance Theory, subject to three translationstrategies and several translation methods. Chapter Six sums up the research conclusion,and discusses research constraints and outlook on the application of Relevance Theory tolegal term translation in the field of Private Equity Investment.
