With the further development of opening to the outside world and China’s entry into the World Trade Organization, contacts with the other countries are frequent. Scientific and technological exchanges are increasing, which stimulates the demand of translation of English for Science and Technology (EST). For development of economy and better opening to the outside world, it is urgent to improve translation quality of English for Science and Technology. Relevance theory can illustrate EST translation well, so the thesis uses relevance theory to guide EST translation.First, the thesis briefly introduces communication inference pattern of relevance theory, then use the pattern to illustrate EST translation. The illustration includes:inference essence and three cognitive elements of EST translation. With lexical and syntactic features of Climate Change and Peak Oil, combing the analysis and examples, the thesis discusses EST translation strategies. Compound and derivative words are in great number in the text, and polysemy of words is also frequent. The strategies of word translation include selecting word meaning according to word formation and context. In the text, long sentences are frequent used. Passive voice is common in sentences. The strategies of sentence and passive voice translation contain analyzing sentence structure, searching for optimal relevance, and using the most appropriate translation methods.
