19thcentury, in which the French painting is very prosperous,is significant in terms of artfor France. In this period, the mainstream position was dominated by Neoclassicism that wasadvocated by the academic and pursued the goal of the classical masters. At the same time,Romanticism was also gaining momentum. Therefore, the prosperity of this era had bothpreciseness of neoclassicism and freedom of Romanticism, which had never occurred in thepast.Behind of the collision of the great prosperity and tow artists’ tremendous and profoundthought and artistry, there existed deeper reasons and meanings. This was the starting point ofattention of Western art changed from simple shapes to colors and lights. The Neoclassicism,Romanticism, Realism and Impressionism all represents this change and affects Westernthinking, behavior and lifestyles.In this article,we analyze the collision between two masters in19thcentury(Frenchneoclassical painter Ingres and Romantical painter Delacroix) from the perspective of artisticlanguage and art ideas.The disputes of Ingres and Delacroix and their supporters of two factions refer to notonly the opposition of art techniques and art formalness, but also a strong artistic concept ofthe theoretical pillars. Neoclassicism which has Ingres as the representatives taken18thcentury Prussia esthetician John Winkelmann’s Aesthetic Ideology as theoretical basis. This isa debate about art techniques, art forms, even the content of the performance art.
