The Study Of Translation From FengShen YanYi To Thai-Translated Version Hongsin And The Influences Of Hongsin On Thai Literature Works

FengShen YanYi (The Investiture of the Gods) is one of the fantasy fictions in Ming dynasty which has unique characteristics and the story is innovative and interesting. FengShen YanYi presents the history background from the end of Shang dynasty to the beginning of Zhou dynasty in which the war between Zhou Wang’s army—the last king of Shang dynasty and the tyrant, and Wu Wang’s army—the first king of Zhou dynasty and the Lord of law had occurred. This piece of literature also contains the story of supernatural power of Taoists, gods, goddesses, and various kinds of demons and monsters. In addition, FengShen YanYi has hidden some philosophy and ethics of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Moreover, it is mingled with histories, cultures, and wisdoms of China.This thesis is separated into5chapters as follows:Chapter1:IntroductionThis chapter mentions about the source and the significance of problems, research objectives, research areas, research methods, theoretical basis, literature review, and the expected resultsChapter2:Introduction to the Chinese original copy of FengShen YanYi and Thai-translated version of Hongsin.For The Chinese original copy, FengShen YanYi, this chapter mentions about the author, the brief story, the origin of the story, and the publication in other countries.For the Thai-translated version, Hongsin, this chapter mentions about the origin of the story and all Thai-translated versions.Chapter3:The translation from FengShen YanYi to HongsinThis chapter mentions about the adjustment in translations including patterns, appellation words, numbers and quantity words, measurement words, timing words, idioms, and culture specific words by comparing the translated copy to the original one, as well as analyzing those particular differences. Moreover, the translation methods which the translator had used were analyzed according to the translation theory.Chapter4:The influences of Hongsin on Thai literature worksThis chapter mentions about the five pieces of Thai literature works which have been influenced by Hongsin:verse drama version of Hongsin, folklore Komintra, verse drama Aphainuraja,verse drama Wongdhevaraja and Sepha (the performance of recitations by troubadours with two small sticks of wood) KhunChang KhunPhaen. These works were compared and contrasted to Hongsin, and analyzed in which aspects they were influenced by Hongsin.Chapter5:Conclusion and recommendationsThis chapter mentions about the conclusion of all the research results together with the recommendations for future research and study.
