Film and TV industry is an important part of a nation's culture.For the better translation of The Investiture of the Gods II,and with its translating practice as the basis,the author conducts relative studies,hoping to help foreign audiences understand C hinese culture better.In light of N ida 's Functional Equivalence Theory,this translation report talks about the features and guiding principles of subtitle translation,and discusses relevant translation methods from three aspects: translation of names of characters and places,translation of culture-loaded expressions and translation of sentences.Analysis shows that subtitle translation is limited by time and space.Thus,the translation should be concise and easy to understand.In addition,domestication and foreignization play an important role in this task.Transliteration,transliteration plus liberal translation are the main methods to deal with names of characters and places.Literal translation,liberal translation and omission are proper for dealing with culture-loaded expressions.Besides,substitution,condensation and omission are frequently used in handling sentences.Through cases studies,the author hopes this translation report will be helpful to improve subtitle translation.
