This paper is based on the textual analysis and takes the case-solving novels of Tang and the Five Dynasties as its research object. It explores the characteristics of time and cultural values of case-solving novels in Tang and the Five Dynasties, as well as its regularity of narrative features, providing useful lessons for future relative researches.This paper is divided into four chapters, the Chapter I focuses on the preamble to the study objects, research status and significance of this paper; the Chapter Ⅱ reviews the ideological transformation of case-solving novels in previous generation, and classifies the novels in the light of their themes and culture connotations:the realistic and illusory ones. The realistic case-solving novels of Tang and the Five Dynasties can be further divided into lawsuits-setting novels and detection novels. Lawsuits-setting novels followed the justice, impartial tradition of previous generation and present the conflict between feudal proprieties and laws. The detection novels shows the authors’creativity and "curious intention" in writing, making full use of psychological, experimental, logical reasoning and forensic tracking methods, which provides a good source of writing material and artistic reference for posterity.The illusory case-solving novels of Tang and the Five Dynasties are mainly present the idea of ghosts and gods, of destiny and of religious beliefs, which have evidently influenced the creation of case-solving novels. The Chapter III focus on the narrative subject, narrative perspective, narrative time and space, and investigates the degrees that the true author of the Tang and the Five Dynasties case-solving novels involved in narrative discourse; These novels also adopt omniscient perspective, limited omniscient perspective and mixed perspective to realize different narrative effect; and according to their temporal and special relationship embodied in the narrative, this paper summarize them as three main forms of space and time:single-strand narrative, arch-style narrative, bead-style narrative. The last chapter is a overview of this paper and points out the significance and value of the study on Tang and the Five Dynasties case-solving novels.
