Musical arose in the early20th century, has been one hundred years of history, it hasdeveloped and gradually spread widely because of its synthesis and diversification ofcomprehensive means of stage performance. The progress of the stage technology in recentyears brought its shock visual and sound effects. With the raise of people’s living standard inour country, people pay more attention to spiritual sustenance, increasing demand for culture.Musical as audio-visual, refined and popular tastes is favored by more and more audiences.Musical is adapted from Voltaire’s Candide, Lilian Hellman rote the original libretto forthe operetta and the lyrics were done by Felicia Bernstein. Its overture and some phrases oftenare played at different music concerts by singers, for example, the well-known “Glitter and beGay” sung by Cunegonde,“The Paris Waltz”.It’s difficult to do the research because of the relatively small search results ofCunegonde in China, even it has been performed at home and abroad a lot.This paper analyzes the characterization of Cunegonde and reality society to person’sinfluence from the perspectives of exploration of the characters’ inner world, the musicanalysis of “Glitter and be Gay”.
