According to the data from China population information research center, in1995, there are320,000,000families in China, and79.28%of them are non-only child, it is obvious that thenon only child family occupies dominant position. With the “only child can have twochildren” policy developing, non-only child family increase gradually. Sibling relationship isthe longest duration of life, it is a “compulsion” relationship to influence children’s owndevelopment and future and even the whole family’s future, so the necessity and importanceof the study on sibling relationship is particularly prominent. High school stage is just inadolescence, which has a significant position and role in the development of individuals, dueto the physiological and psychological changes, their relationship (sibling relationship, peerrelationship, parentage) are also changing. This study launches an investigation and researchaiming at the sibling relations of high school students. In abroad, there are more researches on adolescent sibling relationship, a large number ofstudies show that the sibling relationship is relevant to peer relationship, a lot of studies athome and abroad also show that the peer relationship quality will influence the alonenesslevel directly, but there is no domestic empirical study on sibling relationship. Therefore, thisstudy carries out translation between Chinese and English the sibling relationshipquestionnaire, revises it, and investigates the sibling relationship characteristics in our country. In addition, this study also discusses the factors and its mode of action which influences theChinese high school students aloneness, that is to discuss the aloneness prediction effect thatmade by senior high school students in sibling relations, and peer relationship’s mediatingeffect in aloneness prediction of sibling relationship. In this study,194students were selected randomly from a high school, which measuredsenior high students’ relations of sibling relationship, peer relationship and aloneness in theform of sibling relationship questionnaire, adolescent aloneness questionnaire and peerrelationship questionnaire. The results of this study are as follows:1. This study translated the English sibling relationship questionnaire into Chinese to forma Chinese version sibling relationship questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of49questions, and it is divided into4dimensions i.e. warmth, conflict, rivalry and power comparison, dominating and dominated dimension of conflict, rivalry and power comparisonadopt reverse scoring, the higher the score is, the better the sibling relationship is. The internalconsistency coefficient of each dimension in this study are: warmth is0.872, conflict is0.798,rivalry is0.748, and power comparison is0.626, the questionnaire has good reliability andvalidity, and it can be used as a measurement tool to study the sibling relationship of seniorhigh school students.2. The sibling relationship of high school students’ gender and family location in warmthdimension have remarkable interaction performance: warmth dimension of male siblingrelationship in the city is higher than that those in rural, but for female is right on the contrary. The main effect of grade performs obviously in conflict dimension, independent variablegrade has three levels of senior one, two and three, results of multiple comparisons shows thatthere is no significant difference among the comparison one to one; the interaction betweengender and grade shows significantly in the conflict dimension: sibling conflict of senior twomale students are higher than those in senior one and three, but female are just the opposite;the interaction between gender and family location performs significantly in the conflictdimension: the city male students are easy to have conflicts with their sibling than those inrural, but the female students show exactly the reverse; the interaction between grades andfamily location in conflict dimensions performs prominently: students in the city are easy tohave conflicts with their sibling than those in rural in senior one and two, but it is the oppositein senior three; the main effect of grade performs obviously in power comparison dimension:results of many comparisons says that scoring of students in senior one have great differencewith those in senior three, and shows that power comparison of students in senior one withtheir sibling is obviously higher than those in senior two.3. High school students aloneness have no significant difference in gender, grade andfamily location.4. High school students with same-gender and peer relationship have no significantdifference in gender, grade and family location.5. The warmth, conflict, rivalry and power comparison show negative correlation withaloneness remarkably, and so do same-gender and peer relationship, same-gender and peerrelationship are significantly positive correlation with aloneness, but do not have the obviousrelations with rivalry. All of warmth, conflict, rivalry and same-gender and peer relationship have significantly negative prediction effect to aloneness.6. The same-gender and peer relationship among warmth, conflict, rivalry and alonenessmake a prominent mediating effect, and also show complete mediating effect significantlybetween power comparison and aloneness.
