This paper, after analyzing on the topic of ‘comparative study between the Chinese andwestern paintings’ for its development and developing trend, in a inquiry-based way, ponderson and further studies the development of the Chinese painting.The Comparison of Chineseand Western painting has its own particularity; it only appears in the Chinese academia andgrows into a discipline, but no foreign monographs was found. Therefore, I believe that thissubject is mainly for guiding the development of Chinese painting.Through analyzing the ‘Comparison of Chinese and Western painting’ on its origin,development and trend, this paper comments on two extreme theories: one is the integrationtheory on Chinese and Western paintings advocated by Xu-Beihong&Lin-Fengmian; theother is advocated by Pan-Tianshou on the independent development of Chinese and Westernpaintings. This paper also compares the development between Chinese and western paintingand summarizes the periodical integrations and conflicts in painting. It classifies themonographs and representative figures of this field and predicts the future development. Ihope that this paper can be helpful to defining the future development of Chinese traditionalpaintings, maintaining the "free states" of artistic creation, and to learning how to absorb theforeign refinements selectively. After all, the subject of "the comparative study betweenChinese and western painting” serves mainly for the development of Chinese painting. I hopethat this paper can play a positive role in the development of Chinese painting.
