| Independent film originated in America, and developed in China at early 90s. As an art film which differs from most mass marketed films, independent film cannot match up to the latter on financial support. However, independent film owns its unique significance on artistic value, and China independent film also appeared many outstanding works these years, attracting wide attention of home and abroad insiders.With the rise of domestic independent films, Dalian, as a coastal city, also gradually formed its own style on independent films, but still not get system research and analysis on academic aspect. In order to better study on development situation of Dalian independent film, this essay, in the first part, defined the basic concept of independent film and clarified several easily confused concepts as well. On this basis, the essay explains the art orientation and commercial value of independent film, and figures out its significance on communicology.In the second part, the essay systemizes the creation situation of Dalian independent film. First, study on creators from their age, sex, occupation, etc. Second, discuss on the film concept from the theme, form and attitude. Finally, analyze the existing problems according to the conclusions drawn from the survey.In the third part, the essay studies on the communication channels and sources of budget of Dalian independent film from the market point of view. And find out its crux of the problem by comparing to development process and characteristics of home and abroad independent films.In the fourth part, through the analysis of current situation and existing problems, the essay puts forward the strategy for further development of Dalian independent film, combing with the perspective of communication, basic concepts of independent film development, and previous successful cases of domestic independent films. And hope to make benefit of future development of Dalian independent film.
