This is a translation project report for Wonder, which is a children’s literature written by American writer R. J. Palacio. Wonder is a story about an ugly but kind hearted boy named August. August was not accepted by his school fellows at first because of his ugly appearance, until they were gradually touched by his benevolence and wit. Finally, August won their acceptance and admiration. Wonder is a fascinating story with vivid language and optimistic theme, and it has won many prizes in American. The translation is under the guidance of skopos theory. The skopos theory was put forward and further developed by Hans Vermeer, a Germany translator. The first thing skopos theory concerned is the purpose of translation, which determines the translation methods and strategies that a translator adopted in. There are three rules of skopos theory:the skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. The thesis discusses the translation of Wonder from the aspects of words, dialogues, culture loaded word and rhetoric under the guidance of skopos theory.Under the guidance of three rules of skopos theory, I try to translate Wonder from the children’s view to satisfy children’s reading needs of foreign literature. In words level, skopos rule requires translator use reduplicated words and onomatopoeic words to make it rhythmic. In the dialogue level, coherence rule requires sentence to be fluent and suit for the characters of novel. In culture loaded word level, skopos rule and fidelity rule let translator chose different translation methods according to the intended purpose. In this way, translator makes it possible that the target readers learn new things in an easier way. In rhetoric level, skopos theory and fidelity rule demand that translator can convey content and aesthetic function of rhetoric as much as possible. Anyway, translator should under the guidance of three rules of skopos theory to chose proper translate methods to achieve intended purposes.
