This thesis aims to conduct a research on the translation strategies of children’s literature from the perspective of Skopostheorie. As a branch of literature, children’s literature shares the common features of literature, but because of the particularity of its target readers, it has its own characteristics. The recent years have witnessed a large amount of achievements which are contributed by the domestic and foreign scholars through their meticulous studies on the translation of children’s literature. However, compared with the development of children’s literature, the study of the translation of children’s literature has not received due attention and still occupies a marginalized position. The Skopos Theory determines a translational action which emphasizes “the end justifies the means”. In terms of the translation of children’s literature, translators should take the particularity of children and the translation purpose into consideration so as to adopt appropriate translation strategies and techniques to produce excellent children’s literary works.Based on a careful text-reading of the novel and a deep understanding of Skopostheorie, this thesis selects the mainland Chinese version of Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, and tries to explore how the Skopos rule, the Coherence rule and the Fidelity rule of Skopostheorie are applied to the translation of children’s literature. Meanwhile, according to Ma Ai-nong and Ma Ai-xin’s translation version of Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, the thesis summarizes the translation strategies of foreignization and domestication, the translation methods of transliteration, literal translation, literal translation plus annotation, liberal translation and recreation, the translation techniques of addition, omission and shift. Through this study, the conclusion could be drawn that taking the cognitive ability, aesthetic enjoyment and reading interest of children into consideration, the translators should mainly adopt the translation strategy of domestication to make the target text fluent, comprehensible and fascinating. The author hopes this thesis will be helpful to the successful translation of children’s literature as well as other literary works.
