Faithfulness and artistic quality of language have been used as a standard to measure translation work for very a long period, which neglect various aspects affecting the translator’s choice of translation strategy, such as social background, the consignor’s requirements. Besides, translators’ personal perspectives have also been neglected as well as target readers, who actually impact the final work of the translator. In fact, translators have to take target readers into their consideration and make virtual dialogue with them frequently during translation to imagine if they can understand and also, they have to consider cultural and social background of their target readers. For the above reasons, traditional translation theories, it is not objective enough to evaluate translation works. The present thesis has made a comparative study of David Hawks and Yang Xianyi&Glady Yang’s versions of Hongloumeng to make a deep analysis of the aspect which impacts the translators’ strategies from the perspective of aesthetic of reception theory including "the readers’ horizon of expectation theory",’response inviting structure theory " as well as " the implied readers". Through the above analysis, the present work tries to find out the deep factors influencing the translators strategy and offer a new and objective perspective for the readers to help them to get a comprehensive understanding of the two versions, and also for the reviewers to make a more objective evaluation of the two versions.
