As the early studies on international relations, Hu Shih’s thoughts oninternational politics during his seven years study in the United States(1910-1917)contributed a lot to the development of International Relations in China. This paperanalyzes Hu Shih’s thinking on the international politics during1910-1917, withmaterials like his personal letters, Diary, public speeches, and a variety of seminarsand activities focusing on international relations he participated in, through twoaspects as Hu’s ideas on international system (actors, progress, structure) and the rootof international wars, to explore the formation process of his thoughts on internationalpolitics. The authors points out that, the seven-years’ studying in America has greatsignificances on the formation of Hu Shih’s ideas on international politics, whichhelped him eventually formed the idea of Modern Nation-State System, shifted fromnonresistance to new pacifism and also laid the foundations of his accepting ofInternational Arbitration.
