Freedom of the press is the reflections of the feedom of speech,which isprovided by the constitution and enjoyed by every citizen in the field of newsmedia,freedom of the press is the existence of basis value of the news media.Withthe development of science and technology,freedom of the press developscontinuesly,from newspapers exuding ink smell to the sensual taste of televisionadvertising,and then develops to information internet,the news media to seep intoevery corner of the world and ourlives. With the rapid dissemination of informationof the media,we can get the relevant information on national affairs anddissemination of our ideas and opinions, exchange and communication with others.The concept of freedom of the press in the world, has been widespread concern, theextent of its implementation has been strengthened, has also been more attention andprotection in life, but we should be aware of the media at the same time.because ithas a natural "aggressive ",abuse of freedom of the press, inaccuracies in news andnews violations have occurred, we have the possibility of injury by the news.Without freedom of the press to be a certain degree of legal restrictions, we and thecommunity will pay the price for the freedom of the press,it also brings adversefactors to the development of journalism. Starting from the definition and historicaldevelopment of freedom of the press,it focus on the value of freedom of the pressand significance, analyzes and learns from relevant experience of the developmentof freedom of the press in more mature countries.by contrast, restrictions on thefreedom of the press in China,recommendations clear standards and principles ofthe legal limitations of freedom of the press are put forwarded.This article is divided into six parts, the first part focus on the meaning offreedom of the press and historical development. Content of the basic concepts offreedom of the press about the different expression of the scholars have theconnotation of freedom of the press, and finally make their own understanding of thefreedom of the press. In the historical development of part of freedom of the press, itcited the relevant national law on press freedom and the historical development, andpointed out that the characteristics of each country the freedom of the press, thendescribed the development and evolution of China’s press freedom. The evaluation of the important constitutional value of freedom of the press inthe development of a harmonious society in China and the need for restrictions onthe freedom of the press is put inforwarded in the second part of the paper. Freedomof the press provide information to our public and to protect our right to know.Freedom of the press in our political process of democratization has greatsignificance, it is every citizen’s right to participate in one of the ways of politicallife. However, the environment of China’s press has not been the realization offreedom,Facing the increasingly competitive, in order to pursue interests andsensational effect,it will be of unlimited freedom of the press and conflict with ourprivacy and reputation, so we need to make the necessary freedom of the pressrestrictions. Of course restrictions is the protection of the premise.The third part of the contrast is in limiting the extent and scope of freedom ofthe press in Western countries, including Sweden, United Kingdom, United States,Germany. Sweden is the world’s first development of the press law, the UnitedStates claims to be "the world’s media empire. Freedom of the press system in thesecountries are mature on the development of our national freedom of the press.With a realistic analysis of the status quo of the media development in China inPart IV and Part V, it cites the relevant cases to illustrate the defects of therestrictions of freedom of the press, trying to build a theoretical system of law andsocial practice level twolevel which is inorder to improve the system of ourcountry’s press freedom restrictions.
