| Equality was rarely discussed directly in Marx and Engels’ theory works. Most of the exposition onequality aimed at relentlessly exposing and criticizing the false and deceit of bourgeois equality principles.Others centered on analyzing equal rights in bourgeois economic relations, especially in exchange valuerelations. However, Marx and Engels never denied the equality theory itself. On the contrary, it was thematerialist conception of history, which was created by these two great minds, first studied equality viewon the basis of science. In other words, it applied the class analysis to equality concept and expressed theproletariats’ demands toward equality completely and accurately. In particular, it expounded and proved thebasic conditions and approach to strive for the proletariats’ equal rights and realized this dream in the end.Marx explained his own view of equality from the dynamic perspective of political, social andhistorical changes. First of all, it studies equality in the context of human history. Thus the change ofequality is highly corresponded with the change of history. This thought reflects the historical principle ofMarxism which goes beyond the isolated, static and abstract mindset. Secondly, the view announces itssocial origin and the driving factors in economy from a different consideration. It studies thesocio-historical and moral issues from the social nature of human race. In other words, it reveals theobjective law that equality appears and develops according to the material living conditions of society.Third, Marxism’s equality view embodies a sound critical spirit and the essence of historical dialectic.Marx suggested that equality was the outcome of human social life. The only way to truly cognize theessence and features of social equality and maintain social equality in accordance with different socialconditions was to employ materialistic dialectics and class analysis. This dissertation will discuss the contemporary value of equality in the context of harmonious society.First, it analyzes Marx’s critiques toward the wrong views of equalities, deeming that the Marxism view ofequality is remolded from the old views under the direction of materialist conception of history. The viewis proletariat view of equality which is against bourgeois equality views. Second, it expounds the essence ofMarxism equality view from the angle of contemporary socialist values of equality. At last, it describes thecontemporary values of Marxism equality view, including providing references for the theory and practiceof constructing socialist harmonious society. |
