Despite the Vietnam War is history now, it has the meaningful role in Americanhistory. As the participants of this war—Vietnam Veterans, they served in Vietnamunder the influence of patriotism. In Vietnam, with time, soldiers found that theiropinion which they had accepted was different from the situation of Vietnam. Therefore, they began to be confused. At the same time, in order to have enoughsoldiers, the American Armed Force carried out the Combat Cycle. However, thismeasure was not good to form the Army’s cohesion and the friendship among soldiers.Hence, soldiers were forced to use drug and alcohol to eliminate their suffering. When Vietnam Veterans went back home, they realized that the nationalsituation was so different from before: because America fell into Vietnam, theanti-War movement was growing. At the same time, many traditional values had beenoverthrown, and young people no longer believed that serving in the Army is honor. When Vietnam Veterans went back home, they saw that their former friends andclassmates had found the comfortable jobs and happy families. Certainly, theycouldn’t receive it.
