The Negative Influence Of Pragmatism On Contemporary Chinese Army And The Analyses Of Countermeasures

Along with the development of economic globalization, the negativeinfluences of Pragmatism have been continually deepening. In order to resist andeliminate the negative influences, this paper is based on the basic viewpoints ofMarx doctrine, using the basic method of dialectical materialism and historicalmaterialism, insisting on the combination of theory and practice, discussing onthe negative impact of Pragmatism on this special group of the contemporaryChinese Army on the basis of previous research results, expecting to find somecountermeasuresThis paper is composed of four parts:First is the outline of Pragmatism. It describes the unreasonableness ofPragmatism from idealism, compromise and extreme and analyses thetheoretical factors of the negative influences of Pragmatism on the contemporaryChinese Army. The idealism of Pragmatism resulted in the non–objective ofthinking, one-sidedness of effect and non-directional of enterprising.Compromise of Pragmatism leads to non-dialectical analysis. Extreme ofPragmatism leads to interests first, unscrupulousness and Obliteration of feelingsand briefly describes the four stages of the propagation process of Pragmatism inChina: Preliminary approval, criticizing, great attention and correct treatment.Second is the exposition of the Negative Influence of Pragmatism onContemporary Chinese Army. The Negative Influences of Pragmatism make individual soldier’s view of the world not material, historical or dialectic.Non-materialistic caused ideological confusion and the lost of the workingmethod “Seek truth from fact” and the prevalence of formalism. Non-historicalcaused incorrect treatments to people and things, ignorance of the long-terminterests for instant success, three minutes heat, chop and change and lack ofpersistence. Non-dialectic leads to the only standard: personalinterests----regardless of long-term, regardless of others, and regardless ofmeans. The Negative Influence of Pragmatism makes individual soldiers’outlook on life incorrect. The concept of bitter optimism is receiving andenjoying. The concept of honor and disgrace evaluates honor from theperspective of ego. And the concept of life and death unilaterally emphasizes onthe joy of life, unable to face life and death correctly. The Negative Influence ofPragmatism makes individual soldiers’ values focus on reality, interests andindividual instead of ideal, moral principle and collectivity. Under the influenceof Pragmatism, some soldiers only pay attention to interests when working.They say one thing and do another, take nothingness and bureaucratic style.Pragmatism makes people find loopholes in front of Party discipline and statelaws. They comply in appearance but oppose in heart, play tricks privately,ignore the discipline and resort to every conceivable means for personal interests.The increasing number of cultural works about the unhealthy culture in barracksand the decreasing number of cultural works reflecting soldiers’ lives lead to alack of spiritual life in the camps. The reduced driving force in learning leads to a vulgar life in the camps. In social life they chase after the Western lifestyle andare indulged in the enjoyment of material life. There is a vulgarization trend intheir lifestyles. Relationship between the military and society takes theindividual standard theory and the interpersonal relationship between soldiers is“All for one” instead of “One for all”.Third is the analysis of the reasons for the negative influence ofPragmatism on contemporary Chinese Army. Social factors are discussed mainlyfrom the impact of the capitalism faith, the imperfection of the market economy,the widening income gap, the lack of public servant sense and the increasingemployment pressure of the demobilized soldiers. Cultural factors are discussedmainly from the misunderstanding of the traditional culture, the imitation ofWestern capitalist culture and the deviation from the mainstream values.Personal factors are discussed mainly from the passive of thought reforming, thedefects of individual personality and the subjectivity of self consciousness.Fourth is the discussion on the countermeasures towards the negativeinfluence of Pragmatism on contemporary Chinese Army. Make the seniorcadres themselves an example and the party members diligently implement andlink with practice, which can be used as the assurance of organization. Cleardirection and select Time models, which can be used as the assurance ofcontents. Adapt to the laws of education and build up the long-term mechanismto grasp the mainstream of ideological education. Strengthen the Party spiritconsciousness and the sense of dedication to strengthen ideal and belief. Intensify work target and the study on psychological mechanism of dailyeducation to strengthen the internal construction. Give full play to theadvantages of the fine revolutionary tradition of the forces, the moral educationof traditional culture, the tolerance of traditional culture and the unconsciousinfluence of daily culture. Strengthen the sense of responsibility, the sense ofhonor, and the construction of discipline and style. Play the role of socialrelationships and family life to help eliminate the negative influences ofPragmatism.
