Water is essential material for human survival and development, it is irreplaceable resource for the industrial and agricultural production, economic development and environmental improvement. China is the country with the most water consumption in the world. However, the amount of water available per head of population is only a quarter of the global average. Many cities and area are faced with the problem of water resources shortage.The water shortage situation of Beijing is particularly acute. Currently, development and utilization of groundwater resources have been incorporated into the strategic planning of Beijing.In order to ensure the safety and ability of city water supply, recently, several emergency water sources had been built in Huairou, Pinggu, Fangshan, Changping etc, which modestly relaxed the water supply stress. However, due to the city expansion and rapid increasing of population in the future, water resource shortage situation is still not optimistic. Therefore, without causing serious environmental and geological problem, we must take further steps to carry out the emergency water source investigation work and evaluate the capacity of emergency water source.Karst water of Xishan is an important back-up water sources. Many research institutes have been carried out a large amount of research from different perspective. The results show karst groundwater in Xishan has a large recharge amount and lower water pollution. Based on Hydrogeology, groundwater dynamics, Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing,this paper takes Beijing Xishan as study area, through analyzing region geological and hydrogeological conditions, collecting the water bearing formation lithology, hydraulic characteristics and pumping test data results, survey data of groundwater level, dividing the work simulated target layer with the drilling and profile, determining each layer’s boundary condition by lithology, profile, water level observation data, generalizing the hydrogeologic parameters, determining the recharge, runoff and drain conditions. On this basis, constructing hydrogeological conceptual model and three dimensional groundwater flow numerical model,then using time series data to identify and verify this model.Based on the numerical model and considering groundwater recharge condition, occurrence condition and quality condition etc, this paper selects No.3water works,Wenquan area and Wali area as emergency water source target areas. By designing reasonable mining plan and constraint, evaluate the capacity of emergency water sources, provide scientific basis and technical support for the safety of city water supply.
