With the rapid development of social economy, energy consumption and the rate of depletion gradually increase. Energy conservation and emission reduction have become the theme of the development of the world. In this situation, diesel engine electronic control technology, which is able to improve the fuel economy of the diesel engine and reduce emissions and noise, has become an essential link in the application and development of diesel engines. It has been an important development direction of today’s diesel engines.In the development of diesel engine electronic control system, the traditional development model, which based on tests, has gradually been replaced by V mode, which based on models. The significance of the V mode is:using virtual model to describe the corresponding physical prototype of each part of the system, and simulating the entire system in software and hardware environment, so that we make timely design improvements. The model-based design method can effectively reduce development costs and improve the efficiency of development.Rapid control prototyping (RCP) is a very effective auxiliary means in the V mode electronic control system development of engine, it provides a convenient development environment for the development of electronic control system. The engine model is the core of in-the-loop simulation system, reasonably establishing the engine model is the foundation and key to bring about the simulation system.This paper direct at the status of lacking of researches for NI platform to develop Engine electronic control system. After a demand analysis, and with the use of NI platform graphical programming software Lab VIEW, which is very suitable for rapid prototyping, the accuracy and real-time control analysis of zero-dimensional model of diesel engine can be built. The model is based on thermodynamic models and consists of differential equations and empirical formula. It mainly inspect the working process of diesel engine and can get the running state of diesel engine under stable operating conditions. By comparing the experimental data of already-known models to determine the accuracy of the model and then checking and modifying the model, we can meet the5%error limit in the engineering practice. Outputing sensor signal makes it possible to make connection with the ECU controller model.Simulation results show that the simulation model of diesel engine is accurate, faster, and can reflect the steady-state performance of the engine. It can meet the expected requirements of the development of electronic control system simulation, provide a good development environment and study object for the development of the engine control system. It has also laid a solid foundation for the rapid control prototyping of electronic control development platform. The model can shorten the test cycle and save the cost in the later development and research of diesel engine electronic control system. Thus, this model owns important practical and academic values.
