The main purpose of male primates’ mating behavior with females is to pass down the male’s gene. Besides the genetic function of reproductive mating, mating behavior may have other social functions. The idea raised in previous researches is that male mating behavior also impacts social relationships, namely social mating. To further understand the impacts of reproductive mating and social mating on the relationship in golden snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellana) one-male unit (OMU), seven OMUs in a national nature reserve (Yuhuangmiao) in Qingling Mountains were observed from September2012to July2013. Using scan sampling, focal animal sampling, and all-occurrence recordings,126copulations and89male-female pairs was recorded. The results showed significant differences between the reproductive and social mating. Males put more into reproductive mating than social mating. Different mating mode had different effects male-female relationships. Following social copulation, they appear to be closer, spatial proximity and mutual grooming increased. On contact, reproductive mating benefits less on the spatial proximity and mutual grooming. In addition, males adopted different mating strategies, mating modes, for different females.
