Objective:This study mainly aims to discuss Professor Liu Yan-Ling’s experiences on differentiation of the Chinese medical syndromes and treatment rules of hepatitis b cirrhosis by the clinical cases. Methods:This study collects46cases of patients with hepatitis b cirrhosis, who all are treated by Professor Liu at Xi Yuan Hospital. The collecting materials contain these patients’medical records and laboratory test results at0,3and6months. With self-control method, each case’s therapeutic principles and Chinese medical syndromes are analyzed. The definitions of the Chinese medical syndromes refer to "The traditional medicine diagnosis and treatment plans of22profession and95diseases", published by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Department in2010.Results:Among36patients with hepatic compensation, syndrome of liver depression and spleen deficiency is the major type. And syndrome of spleen deficiency with dampness retention is the majority among10patients with hepatic decompensation.Syndrome of liver depression and spleen deficiency as well as internal obstruction of dampness-heat syndrome are the most common types in the early stage of hepatitis b cirrhosis; syndrome of spleen deficiency with dampness retention as well as blood stasis of liver and spleen syndrome in the middle stage; spleen-kidney yang deficiency syndrome as well as liver-kidney yin deficiency syndrome in the last stage.By analyzing the prescriptions of Professor Liu, xiao-xian-xiong decoction and wuwei-xiaodu drink are usually used for internal obstruction of dampness-heat syndrome; chaihu-shugan powder plus shenling-baizhu powder for syndrome of liver depression and spleen deficiency; huangqi-yinchen-wuling powder for syndrome of spleen deficiency with dampness retention; yi-guan decoction for liver-kidney yin deficiency syndrome; shen-qi pills for the spleen-kidney yang deficiency syndrome; and activating blood methods step by step for blood stasis of liver and spleen syndrome. Conclusions:1. The best curative effects of hepatitis b cirrhosis produce only when the treatment bases on both syndrome and illness differentiation.2. Using the activating blood methods by steps flexibly in view of disease condition could prevent the development of hepatitis b cirrhosis.3. The advanced stage of hepatitis b cirrhosis is a serious condition. Most patients are not only yin deficiency but also water retention. Cirrhosis ascites occurs so repeatedly that the treatment is intractable. Both elimination and reinforcement treatment should be provided at the same time in order to attack the pathogen without injury.
