Abstract/Summary:
Because the patho genesis of chronic hepatitis B is "vital qi deficiency with lingering pathogens", the clinical process is a struggle between vital qi and pathogens which closely related to the outcomes. The treatment for chronic hepatitis B in Western medicine is not effective enough. However, traditional Chinese medicine has its advantages in syndrome differentiation treatment. On the basis for its pathogenesis and disease process, we took "principle of strengthening vital qi and eliminating pathogens" as guideline to treat chronic hepatitis B. According to the rising and felling of vital qi and pathogens, the treatment is based on heat-clearing and detoxifying as well as strengthening vital qi and spleen, assisted with blood-activating and stasis-resolving as well as nourishing liver and kidney. By treating with both elimination and reinforcement, we could achieve a good treatment effect without injury or lingering pathogens. Objective:The pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis B is due to syndrome of vital qi deficiency with lingering pathogens. Taking disease and syndrome differentiation into consideration, the treatment guided by "principle of strengthening vital qi and eliminating pathogens" can exert the advantages of Chinese medicine and regulate the whole body, thereby increasing the overall treatment effect, improving patient life quality and prolonging lifespan. Methods:This study observed30patients in Xiyuan Hospital from July2012to January2013, including17females and13males, aged19-75years old, the average age of46years old. With self-control method, the experiment observed and analyzed the amount of virus, biochemical parameters and symptom scores before and after treatment. Results:According to the results, the overall effective rate was73.3%, the amount of virus (HBV DNA, HBeAg) and biochemical parameters (ALT, AST, GGT, TB) were all significantly decreased (P<0.01), and the clinical symptoms were improved obviously (P<0.01).Conclusions:The basic syndrome of chronic hepatitis B is vital qi deficiency with lingering pathogens, therefore "principle of strengthening vital qi and eliminating pathogens" is the fundamental guideline. After treatment for6months, the biochemical parameters and clinical symptoms of patients with chronic hepatitis B were improved obviously. By treating with both elimination and reinforcement,"principle of strengthening vital qi and eliminating pathogens" has a significant curative effect on clinical symptoms and biochemical parameters without injury or lingering pathogens. In conclusion,"principle of strengthening vital qi and eliminating pathogens" plays an important role in treating chronic hepatitis B.
