The pathology scanner can generate digital scanned images of the samples at high speed. It is believed to be one of the advanced basic platforms of medical diagnostic. The main content of this stuty is to design the digital pathology microscopic imaging optical system, and this system is the most important part of this pathology scanner. In order to show the digital images on the computer’s screen, the pathology must be enlarged by this microscopic optical system first.First of all, according to the required resolution of this pathology scanner and the parameter of the CCD sensor, an overall design of the microscopic optical system is proposed. This microscopic optical system is consisted of the spotlight system, the microscope objectives, the lens pf the linear CCD and the area array CCD, the double optical system and the splitting prism. Their radius and thickness are determined by the parameters of this pathology scanner. Then, the initial structural parameters of the linear CCD lens and the double optical system are calculated with the primary aberration theory. Differently, by searching other literatures, one similar lens is chosen to be the area array CCD lens. An optical path diagram makes great contributions to get the structure of the spotlight system. At last, all of these radius and thickness are optimized in Zemax(2009) to make the aberration of this system less and less. In the process of designing this microscopic optical system, some new methods are proposed. The digital pathology microscopic imaging optical system designed in this paper meets the requirements of the pathology scanner with high quality.
