BackgroundAs a result of lumbar disc degeneration, lumbar disc herniation and spinal stenosis become common diseases in orthopedics department. With the advent of an aging society in China, lumbar degenerative diseases pose a threat to the health of the people and have serious impact on the life quality of patients. With the popularity of me-chanical and computer office, more and more people work in a sit-ting position, which led to the lumbar disc herniation, and the dis-ease tends to younger. Lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration had become a hot research issue.Disc degeneration has become one of the problems plagued ortho-pedic surgeons, and it’s unlikely to reverse in case of degeneration. Current treatment methods are conservative treatment and surgical treatment. To some extent, operation can alleviate the clinical symptoms, but can’t block the Process of disc degeneration. Spinal surgery with internal fixation will lead to changes in the structure; speed up the adjacent segment disc degeneration, while giving pa-tients a serious psychological and economic burden. Therefore, how to Prevent or delay the process of disc degeneration become the fo-cus of research.ObjectCell therapy is a part of the biological treatment. This reviews mainly through the research of literature the progresses in the treat-ment of intervertebral disc degenerative diseases of cell therapy. Nearly five years of study of the literature found that the biological basis of cell therapy has become more perfect, including the study of cell selection, research scaffold, the role of cell signaling factors and evaluation methods. For clinical application of cell therapy research hot spot in recent five years, Including, indications for stem cell en-graftment, stem cell implantation method, the safety of implants im-planted cell survival and differentiation control. In the foreign lite-rature has been quite a lot of research to support the clinical applica-tion of cell therapy. ConclusionA method of treating DDD. cell therapy is very attractive. But there are still many issues need to be explored to promote the application of pre-clinical. If cell therapy as a treatment for DDD becoming rou-tine clinical treatment, must evaluate the feasibility of restoration to achieve the desired effect in the relevant patient compliance and treatment cycle. Currently, with some diagnostic programs to deter-mine the feasibility of cell therapy, which is mainly exclude disc disruption and the disc confirmed by MRI contrast nutrition pathway impaired patients.
