Yingkou is located in the northwest of Liaodong Peninsula, enjoying convenienttransportation and developed economy. Its long history and culture, specialgeographic location and multi-ethnic blend have gradually formed unique folkcustoms and art forms specific to the region during the thousands of years.As an important part of the Yingkou folk culture, funeral music has a broad massbase, and has been loved by the masses. But in recent years, with changes in sociallife and folk customs, the reform of the funeral rites as well as changes in people’scultural psychology, appreciation habits and art tastes, Yingkou funeral music hasbeen under a greater influence, facing the danger of declining and dieing out.This paper researches on the funeral music culture of the Yingkou area, andpresents a detailed record of the funeral rites of theYingkou area and their drum musicthrough the fieldwork methods of ethnomusicology. Starting with music ontology,from the aspects of the orchestra organization, musical instruments, performanceforms, music style and structural means as well as variation techniques, this paperillustrates the artistic characteristics of the drum music in the Yingkou area; throughthe ontological characteristics and cultural functions of music culture, and changes infuneral music at the time of social transition, the funeral music culture in the Yingkouarea is described. Finally, the necessity and possibility of the funeral music inheritagein the Yingkou area are analyzed. Combined with the problems faced in the inheritage,this paper puts forward the practical ideas of protecting and inheriting the Yingkoufuneral music.
