Wong Kar-wai is a domestically and internationally widely recognizedChinese film Master for his high artistic attainments. For the film art that depends onindustrial technology, it is not a wise move to strictly distinct the art films from thecommercial films. But from the experience from the history of film development, theauthors’ film, said that the art movies, such films the director’s personal expressionhas became most important, which are not optimistic about the box office revenue,belongs to a small minority of the film. Wong Kar-wai’s films from all aspects intoconsideration can be called authors’ film. But its market competitiveness is not lessimportant than commercial films."In the Mood for Love" and "2046"’s Mainlandbox office revenue reached the6thhighest revenue of the year, which is very rare inauthors’ movies. Therefore, in the present context of such a consumer culture amongthe study of Wong Kar-wai film a commercial for China’s film industry as well as therelationship between art and commerce has important significance.This study of the commercial art films of Wong Kar-wai is to go through fromthe consumer’s point of research, put Wong Kar-wai’s film as a cultural commodityinto the consumer context, by conducting consumer surveys of Wong Kar-wai’smovie audience of his major film to find out which consumer elements are favorableby them. Based on consumer survey data analysis, Wong Kar-wai’s moviesaudiences are majorly Petty Bourgeoisie groups among the middle class. The Authorfound the reason why Wong Kar-wai’s films are given above in the art and businesssuccess, mainly because of his movie inward to meet the aesthetic needs of theday-to-day life of the Petty Bourgeoisie groups to outside the audience groups intothe consumer culture segmentation.In this thesis, in the first part of the introduction the author gave anintroduction of the meaning and the status of research on this subject. It has combedto do a simple introduction of Wong Kar-wai and its movie and draw a majoraudience research by Wong Kar-wai’s movie-market, followed by consumer cultureand daily life of aesthetic theory suggests that the intrinsic relationship of WongKar-wai’s film and audience.The body of the three chapters, respectively, from the topic of the film,production, marketing three areas to study the relationship of Wong Kar-wai filmaudience. Selected according to the market research report into consumers reflect consumer behavior most irritating elements of Wong Kar-wai film show, through thestudy of the relationship of these elements with consumers, Wong Kar-wai film artand commercial success.Among the final conclusion, the author summarizes the research and come tothe stage of conclusion. I hope such a small study could make some contribution tothe better development of the Chinese film, at the same time I hope this WongKar-wai movie case study at the consumer cultural context aestheticization ofeveryday life in the moment is able to demonstrate a new relationship between artand the audiences.
