Landscape painting is the combination of ancient Chinese philosophy and artistic aesthetics, which has a profound cultural background and connotation. Its form, structure and creation process in the form of language, is actually a process of a creatining contradictions as well as attempting to to resolve conflicts. Only with contradictions could abundant variations be achieved while at the same time integrating them into a vivid unified picture; otherwise the canvas would be monotonous and inanimate.This thesis is composed of four parts. The first part expounds the research background, the sifnificance and function of creating formative oppositions. Then combined with the great works of ancient times, Part Two explores the development and evolution of the form of traditional landscape painting with an attempt to analyse the unique form of ds landscape paintings pertaining to different dynasties under the impact of traditional aesthetic concept and culture. Subsequently the third part elaorates in detail varied contradictory relations in its expressive form such as primary-secondary, true-false, sparse-dense, as well as converging-disverging, etc. While Part Four focuses on the practical application of contradictory relations in creating the image with the author’s own paintings as cases.
