This paper mainly discusses the development and evolution of higher degreeadverb " Geng" and " GengX" in contemporary Chinese. Besides the foreword andconclusion, it is divided into four parts.The first chapter focuses on the analysis of the new collocation of Geng and"Geng X " in modern Chinese appeared. As relative degree adverb,this kind of adverbis not limited to arrange in pairs with adjectives and Psychological verbs. They notonly can use with state adjectives, verbs, nouns which have [+degree meaning,+character] meaning as grammatical structure, they can also form into pragmaticinclination in the discourse level. The nature of its relative degree adverbs can alsogive the components with external degree, thus widening the scope of collocation andreeflect the relevance. The new features of the adverb also reflects subjectivity of thespeaker, showed a tendency of Subjective.The second chapter mainly studies the former term ellipsis " Geng/Geng X"sentence and subjectivity of this adverbs." Geng/Geng X " is very often used inmodern Chinese, we consider them as typical relative degree adverbs in past, throughthe specific and objective comparison to indicate the degree of increase. But in recentyears, with the extensive use of the former term ellipsis of "Geng/Geng X" sentenceand in the motive and mechanism of subjective, this kind of adverbs emergedsubjective tendency. We condisder the transformation of succedent andgeneralizationof former term is the main way of the absoluteThe third chapter explore the connection function through the study of semantictypes and expression function " Geng " and " Geng X " when expressing relationand cohesion. The basic usage of " Geng " and " Geng X " is used in the sentence toindicate degree increase. But along with the enhancement of the textual function, itcan also be used for sentence or discourse to indicate associated and cohesive function,which can prove from its recent functional changes and the syntactic position.whenthey indicate cohesion,They have three kinds of semantic relations, namely simplelyto experss degree increase, further explanation of the topic and information, as well as highlighting the high measurement.The fourth chapter focuses on the interior of " Geng " and " Geng X ", andanalysis the new characteristics and developing trend reflected in the interior of thewords in contemporary Chinese which every word is not the same in speed and trendof development." Geng, Gengjia " is more free in modify various words and thestructure, while Geng,Gengshi " is superior to other words in the relevance andmodality. The motivationof these new characteristics and trend is mainly from theneed to express subjective expression and discourse, subjectivity is an important causewhile Pragmatic inference analogy is the main mechanism.
