Lu Xun devoted his life to the national character criticism. We often recognize the attitude to people of Lu xun from the positive and negative aspects. However, this analysis always ignores the negative ingredients in the positive attitude and the positive ingredients in the negative attitude. Lu Xun’s attitude to the public was extremely complex. With the changes of the social background or political reasons, the concept and range about the public changed. In the process of changing,Lu Xun’s attitude also changed. we will divide the attitude into three stages according to time and sketch out the meaning of the concept of the attitude in the three stages.At last,we will point out the differences and the relations among the three stages The paper is divided into the following three chapters.The first chapter will discuss the attitude to the public during the study abroad. Lu Xun insisted the concept of respecting individual and excluding of the public. But Lu Xun did not become a facsimile of Nietzsche, he also expressed the sympathy to the public.The second chapter will discuss the attitude to the public before and after the May Fourth Movement. The attitude to the public presented a pessimistic and critical connotation during this time.It naturally connected with the Lu Xun’s life experiencesThe third chapter will discuss the attitude to the public during the Shanghai times. After Lu Xun’s accession to the Leftist Association,he showed an optimistic view different from the previous time in his many articles.When he was in recognition of the public,he also unconsciously revealed disappointments.
