Ya ’an is located in the hinterland of Sichuan Province,with abundantcultural and historical treasures of Han Dynasty. The city is also rich inarchaeological sites, especially those beasts carved with stones from theEastern Han Dynasty on both sides of the road to the Mausoleum, among which11remain, almost half of existing beasts carved with stones throughout the country.Through fieldwork investigation, the author find that the beasts carved withstones in Ya ’an which belong to the East Han Dynasty have a unique style andobvious regional characteristics. They are rare remaining treasures of beastscarved with stones with high historical, artistic and academic value. Famousestheticians like Mr Wang Chaowen, spoke highly of these beasts carved withstones and considered them as the essence of the art of Han Dynasty. By analyzingtheir modeling source, subject function, material and process and comparingmodeling characteristic, the author believe it is helpful for contemporary artpractice.
