The primitive art, including prehistoric art, and art created by people still living in primitive society. In the long evolutionary process, human has mostly been uncivilized primitive, savage and barbaric state. People invented language, social class differentiation, the humanity entered the civilized society, accounted for only a very short period of time in the whole history of human. The primitive art has its unique beauty, and ancient and modern art is developed on the basis of the original art. The primitive art shows different characteristics in different regions, but the original art all has its generality. Although the original art is the sprout of art, although the human society has been highly developed, science and technology change rapidly, and various schools and viewpoints of art also constantly bring forth the new through the old, is too busy to attend to all, still we are moved by the simplicity and sincerity when we look at the human in the childhood of primitive art. This simplicity, full of vitality, rough, generalization, unpretentious character, is the people living in the modern society is lack of. The primitive art has injected new vitality to the modern art, many artists draw nourishment from the primitive art, created the immortal works.This paper introduces the development of primitive art, primitive art classification, main content, and the origin of art. By analyzing some examples of primitive art, we could sum up the characteristics of primitive art, and the reasons why modern people prefer primitive art. Through the analysis of some modern artists who learn from primitive art and some of their works, we could see the importance of the primitive art.
