Katherine Mansfield was one of the most famous writers in the history of British literature. As the first time to write novels, her works are closely associated with the Russian novelist A.Ⅱ.HexoB(Anton-Chekhov). It is necessary to discuss the literature relation between the two writers.The literature relation between Mansfield and Chekhov is mainly refers to the relationship of the former to the latter literary creation for reference. Due to the lack of self creation ability and life experience, as well as the works of Chekhov aroused Mansfield’s heart and soul, she chose Chekhov’s creation for reference. At the stage from1909to1910, Mansfield is straightforward for reference of Chekhov’s works. Her short story the tired child was similar to Chekhov’s short story sleep from the content to the skills. Her short stories in the "short apartment" also used for reference to Chekhov’s succinct and irony skills. At the stage from1911to1917, Mansfield was contradictory for the reference of Chekhov’s works. On the one hand, she drew lessons from Chekhov’s creative skills; on the other hand, she strived to explore her own style. In1911, she drew on Chekhov the creation of the change in the narrative person, converted first person narrative point of view to the third person narrative point of view, combined with the flexible using of freedom of speech, making novel creation more flexible and natural. This way expanded the space of the novels. In subsequent creation, she drew on Chekhov realism writing. She selected materials in daily life to write short stories. By composed the materials, she let the works overstep the real life. In1915, Mansfield wrote the Prelude. The Prelude would dilute the plot of the novel in Chekhov’s impressionism features、 musical skills and naturally integrate into their own creation. She also explored new skills and tried to add the stream of consciousness and interior monologue into the works, so she could express the complex psychological of the figures. At the stage from1917to1922, Mansfield had walked to the end of her life. At this period, due to Mansfield comprehend more deeply of Chekhov’s creation, her ambivalence attitude before this stage has been changed. She was comfortable in using for reference in Chekhov’s works. She learn Chekhov creation’s theme, add her own skills, tried to explore excellent works. She tried to re-creation the subject matters of Chekhov’s works, use stream of consciousness、 interior monologue and other self-style techniques, and then create a group of outstanding short stories.From the beginning into the literary world to the end of Mansfield’s life, the reference between her and Chekhov was always existed. She had been continued to enhance her creative skills under the guidance of the Chekhov’s creations. From referenced Chekhov works’ content at the first time to reference Chekhov works’ theme, Mansfield improved her creative skills heavily on Chekhov’s creations.To some extent, Chekhov was not only Mansfield’s teacher, but also was her friends. She was in the arms of Chekhov, and unceasingly strived to make innovation. Finally, she established her own status in literary world.
