Jacques Fran ois Antoine Ibert is one of the most important and creative composers in20th century, havingmany contributions to different musical forms, including opera, ballet, orchestral, concerto, piano, film music, andothers. Concertino da camera was composed by Jacques Ibert in1935for alto saxophone and eleven instruments, and premiered by his friend, saxophonist Sigurd Rascher, during the same year. Such a short concerto playsdecisive role in the development of saxophone solo, and its creation marks a new stage of the art of saxophoneplaying. For a saxophone player, it is a great challenge in both the performance techniques and the expression ofmusic connotation, due to the various music elements involved, such as both the classical and the mordernperformance skills, the jazz music element, the large range requiring overtones performing, and so on.In this dissertation, after briefly analysing the formal structures of both the two movements in concertino dacamera, we mainly focus on the study of saxophone playing. The specific performance analyses are presentedfor all the themes and motives one by one. Both the difficult points and the involved skills in the performance arealso explored detailedly.
